Sponsored Walk 2019

Sponsored Walk 2019 - support the victims of the Easter Sunday Bombings in Batticoloa

On Sunday 11th August 2019, members of the PPAV (UK) gathered in Victoria Park, Hackney, for a sponsored walk in order to raise funds for their chosen Non-Visakha charity this year- The Foundation of Goodness- Easter Sunday Bomb Victims in Batticaloa.

The weather was very kind to us that day. It was beautifully sunny, unlike the previous day, when there was persistent rain. The walk commenced at the Pavilion Café and we followed a carefully mapped out route .The route took us past the Burdett Coutts Fountain, the fishing and boating lakes, and along a stretch of the Hertford Union Canal which led to the rustic bridge.

It was the first time most of us had visited this East London Park. Many agreed that it was very interesting and made a lovely change of venue for this year’s sponsored walk.
At the end of the walk we came to a bustling and trendy street market with vendors selling a variety of international foods. We were spoilt for choice with Vietnamese, Lebanese, Chinese, Indian and more choices on offer. Sri Lankan kottu roti were also available.

This was another enjoyable event organised by the PPAV (UK). Along with our members , were their families and friends making a very convivial walking group. We enjoyed our Sunday and raised much needed funds for our chosen charity this year.

Our thanks to all who gave up their Sunday to participate in this walk, to all the funds raised by the walkers by getting sponsors, and to all who gave so generously.
