For more than 30 yrs Mala Polpitiye has played an active part in our association.She has been the President of the PPAV & an active committee member, editor, and also our secretary for many many years.

On Friday the 6th of December 2019 the PPAV committee held a Surprise Birthday Party celebrating her dedication and contribution to the association.

About 30 PPAV committee members, husbands and friends gathered at the Rising Sun Restaurant in Sudbury on Friday the 6th December 2019 to celebrate a special birthday of a very special committee member Mala Polpitiye. Mala arrived accompanied by her husband Wije ( affectionately known as ‘Pola’ ) and son Thushara. This party was planned to surprise Mala & it certainly did.   

The evening commenced with a presentation by Harshi Boralessa. She took Mala down memory lane through photographs of her childhood, school and university life and her early career. She was also reminded of the dashing young man Pola who later became her husband .

Tributes were paid by committee members highlighting Mala’s contributions to the Association over the years. It was clear that whilst she engaged in many activities , PPAV was clearly one of her passions. She was integral to the many cultural activities & took lead roles in the various productions staged by the Association to raise funds for Visakha.

Mala’s husband ‘Pola’ and son Thushara . had the “last words”. These were truly heart warming. The presentation, concluded with a toast to Mala.

Mala then cut the beautiful birthday cake made for the occasion by Sepalika De Alwis and thanked everyone present & the committee.

The sumptuous meal that followed in the company of old friends & new, was a fitting finale to a wonderful evening.
